Julie Merwin

Julie grew up in Connecticut, and moved to Utah in 1996 after graduating from Springfield College, in Massachusetts with a Bachelors degree in Health/Fitness. A competitive gymnast for 17 years, she transitioned to rock climbing, and eventually co-owned a climbing gym. Julie has experience coaching gymnastics, climbing, general fitness in both clinical and recreational gym settings, some team building/ropes course work and she is an Access Consciousness® Certified Facilitator.
Julie began practicing yoga in 2000 and began teaching in the fall of 2006. She has completed both Bikram and Vimana Yoga teacher trainings, and continues to expand her knowledge of yoga and movement through practice and learning through fellow instructors.

She chose to become an instructor as an extension of her own personal practice, and in seeing the gift that a yoga practice can be in many people’s lives in so many different ways.
“I love seeing people have breakthroughs and Ah-ha’s, where suddenly the place that they thought they could not go beyond has melted away. I wish to see a world where people are empowered to be the gift that they can be, free from the sense that they are somehow lacking or limited. Yoga can be a great workout, and can be healing and nurturing for one’s body. It’s also a great tool for self awareness, observing patterns, and points of view that may or may not be working to your advantage. It can be a microcosm for the rest of your life. For me, being an instructor is also a practice. My physical practice is something that came pretty naturally and is fairly comfortable to me. What didn’t come naturally was being up in front of a room full of people and speaking. Being a teacher upped the ante. To grow in the ways that I felt I needed to, I had to get out of my comfort zone. Now, I have the honor of facilitating people in their yoga practice and watching them transform their lives and bodies.”
Julie has also competed in the Bishnu Gosh National Yoga competitions in 2007 and 2008. In addition to her athletic creativity, she is also an artist working in blown glass, painting, photography, and jewelry.
She is an animal and nature lover, and has a deep gratitude for this beautiful planet and all its creatures. She is admittedly a crazy cat lady and enjoys hanging out with her feline companions too.
When she is not in the yoga studio, she is often playing outside, working in her garden, hiking, biking, climbing, or facilitating clients in both private and class settings using the tools and processes of Access Consciousness®.
